MINSK, October 8 (BelTA) – There is a need to analyze the situation with the reduction in the number of retail outlets in rural areas, said Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko during his speech at the general assembly of the Belarusian National Union of Consumer Societies Belkoopsoyuz on October 8. , informs BelTA.

According to the head of state, the history of Belarusian consumer cooperatives began with trade when the association began to distribute products under the ration system in accordance with established standards and prices. “Retail remains the heart of your business. Today it is the main branch of Belkoopsoyuz, which accounts for almost 20% of the total turnover of commerce in rural areas. You provide services to people living in small villages, those villages where fewer than ten people live. There are about 5,000 such villages in Belarus. For the elderly who live there, your stores, vans, supply centers have become centers of social and political life. You are its main ideologues and promoters, ”said the Belarusian leader.

Therefore, Alexander Lukashenko instructed to thoroughly analyze the situation with the reduction in the number of retail businesses, especially in rural areas. As per the available data, in 2020 the number of stores decreased by almost 300 (or almost 5%) compared to the number we had in 2019. The number of portable retail stores decreased by 2%.

According to the head of state, during one of the recent meetings with the government, it was discussed whether the decision to expand and optimize facilities such as post stations, banks and organizations of communication in rural areas was fair.

“I repeat that life does not end. New technologies are coming. The situation with the budget is not easy, we have to count and try to save every ruble. All countries do. Therefore, it is important to ensure that all services are provided to rural and urban populations in the same volume, and the quality of these services must improve. What will you do with the workers released from the banks and the post office? This is the direct responsibility of the heads of the district executive committees, although they are not always willing to do so, ”said the president.
